Have you ever been to Barnsley or Wakefield – two medium-sized towns in Yorkshire? Have you walked through their town centres, met people on the streets?
So now imagine these towns consist only of people from Central & Eastern Europe; according to some cautious estimates, their population in Yorkshire is equal more or less to the population of Barnsley or Wakefield.
Yes, imagine that all inhabitants of Barnsley or Wakefield are Polish, Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians, Czech, Slovaks, Hungarians, Romanians, Bulgarians.
Does it sound strange? Well, no one knows for sure how many Central & Eastern Europeans live in Northern England. But according to some cautious estimates, their population in Yorkshire is equal more or less to the population of Barnsley or Wakefield. The Polish community in Yorkshire is estimated to be bigger than the population of whole of Reydale in North Yorkshire. It is a significant number that cannot be ignored.
